If your house is close a busy street, next to a cemetery, at the bottom of a steep hill, or next to a fast moving stream; you are probably losing vital energy. these places sap our strength!
Even heavy duty power lines nearby can make you tired and irritable.
choose your home with land around it if possible and plant trees and shrubs as a barrier to eyesores and unsettling places like cemeteries, funeral homes, or land fills.

In the quest for better sleep, we must be aware of every aspect of the bedroom environment. If the bedroom is yellow, lime green, orange, or tomato red, you are not going to get sleep that is deep enough and long enough. These colors are mentally and physically stimulating, not restful!
Good sleep is good Feng Shui!

So many of us have strong reactions to chemicals in cleaning products. We are also trying to leave as little an imprint on the ecology of the planet.
Here’s a helpful tip…to clean sinks, mix 3 parts cream of tarter to one part hydrogen peroxide. this paste is super on stainless steel and on porcelain.
Eco-friendly is good Feng Shui!

Sleeping better in the cold months of the year might seem easier since it is darker for more of the day. People who don’t get outside every day and exercise in the fresh air don’t sleep as deeply. Staying just as active in the winter as you are in the Summer is the challenge. Natural light and air that is not closed up in a heated building are two components that will keep you healthier.
To your good health!

Tis the season for raking leaves, stacking firewood, putting garden tools away, etc. My best advice is to stretch before and after, hydrate, take frequent breaks, and take a long hot bath or shower afterwards. The work doesn’t have to be done all at once. I guarantee it will wait for you!
Also, bend at the knees! Treat yourself to a massage if you can. It will be worth it in the long run!
Taking good care of yourself is good Feng Shui!

I recently went on a mushroom safari! Sue VanHook, a Skidmore College professor, spent two hours with a small group showing and telling about fungi. I have a new appeciation for the “fungus amongus”! We even cooked up a golden colored mushroom that is highly prized in gourmet circles. We made spore prints, too.
Sue is working with twp young scientists to find a way of making take-out containers from fungi…talk about biodegradable!

Gone are the days when we could buy a rose and get the fern and maybe a sprig of baby’s breath added at no charge. Here’s a handy tip…if you have a vegetable garden, use the carrot tops as greens in your bouquet! It works and they look great. Other leafy plants in your yard can also add depth to your flower arrangements.
In the Fall, pick bittersweet for arrangements and save pine cones. They can be spray painted gold or silver. You could also add glue and glitter to them! Spray painted branches also add character to your arrangements. Perk up your home environment with nature’s beauty!
That is good Feng Shui!

I recently visited a home in Troy. Clutter was the challenge and much of it was childhood items. The owner saved these items in the belief that her children or grandchildren might want the items. Hanging on to things “just in case” is stagnancy. Truthfully, it is rare that an old pram, the stained wedding gown, or the old dolls, will be wanted.
My best advice is to ask them. If they say yes, give the item to them now. If no, donate it or sell it or trash it. Live with the items you love and use now!

The Saratoga racing season starts this coming Wednesday and goes until the first week in September. If you haven’t been before, I highly recommend it for a day of fun. It’s not about the betting…that is fun but not required. It’s the horses, the people and the atmosphere that make it fun. In ten races, I may only wager 5 or 6 and only $2 bets.
The horses are beautiful! I have had the chance to be in the backstretch area doing energy clearing for the horses and riders and really began to appreciate their beauty and intelligence.
Dress up or dress down, but come for the flavor of Saratoga at it’s best!

I have only run my AC a couple of times this year…so much rain! I have the best crop of weeds in the neighborhood. You know what comes next…A long dry spell probably. Let’s decide not to complain. We have lower electric bills and you can’t mow in the rain.
Go to a movie or a museum, take a train ride, get a massage, or go fishing. I’ve always heard that fish bite when it rains!

We went strawberry picking! Nothing tastes better than the local grown. Sliced strawberries over lemon pound cake is my personal favorite. Did you know that strawberries are one of the 10 best foods for your skin? They contain both soluble and insoluble fiber and NO FAT. Go to your local farm stand or Farmer’s market and get some soon.

Recently I met with a client who experienced constant sleep interruption. She had removed the TV from the bedroom and though sleep improved, she still had some interrupted sleep. She had a large bedroom mirror that faced the bed. I advised her to remove it and that was the end of her sleep problems!
Good sleep is good Feng Shui!

A client recently wondered why her once thriving home business was failing. After seeing her home, I told her that the old, stagnant pond in the wealth corner of her property symbolized her income…STAGNANT! I advised her to either fill in the pond and plant wildflowers, or revitalize it with a fountain so that the “flow” would be continuous.
Results were almost immediate. Within a month of beginning the work of cleaning the pond and adding a fountain, she had new accounts and the money began to flow in!

It’s time to plant a tree! Trees clean pollution from the air, add oxygen for us to breathe, prevent erosion of topsoil, keep us cooler in the summer, and provide a wind break (especially pine trees placed on the north side). Trees give us a variety of fruit and nuts and provide a home for many beautiful birds. They even provide privacy and can block an unsightly view! Lastly, they soften and reduce sound pollution.
Planting trees is good FengĀ Shui!
