The Spirit of Saratoga
As a Feng Shui consultant, I have been entranced with Saratoga Springs and the surrounding communities for a long time.
First, the architecture is rich with charm, character, and history. From the historic Old Bryon Inn, multitudes of Victorian and craftsman homes, modern mansions, and beautiful churches, there are feasts for the eyes everywhere.
“The residents of Saratoga take great pride in their surroundings and it shows.”
I have found over the years that the residents of Saratoga have, as a rule, as much charm and character as the landscape. They take great pride in their surroundings and it shows. Whatever the season, there are decorations like lush flowerbeds, hanging planters, and mini gardens outside each business, and even uniquely decorated horses in themes to fit the sponsoring business.
All of these things speak to how much these people love their town.
Every holiday is richly celebrated and care is taken to have themes that reflect history. The house tours, Victorian street walks, holiday open houses, and the fabulous First Night on New Year’s Eve are just some of the ways this local pride is celebrated.
There are many museums in the area to pique anyone’s interest. The military museum on Lake Avenue is in a historic old building and even hosts a wonderful flower show every year. There is also the Museum of Dance and the Horse Racing Museum.
The Performing Arts Center and Caffé Lena
An emphasis on the arts has long been a Saratoga tradition. From the charming Caffé Lena to the Saratoga Film Forum there is so much to do. The Performing Arts Center has been a hub of entertainment for decades. The Canfield Casino hosts the Saratoga Springs history Museum and many other special events take place there throughout the year, and sits in the beautiful Congress Park in the very heart of downtown.
The artist’s retreat called Yaddo is a beautiful mansion not to far from the racetrack. The general public can go to appreciate the beautiful rose garden, fountains, grounds and ponds that are open to the public.
